We’re here, lets chatAlmost all creams made to help with blemish-prone skin use Benzoyl Peroxide bleach. This is why hair will bleach to an orange colour when in contact with most blemish creams. Bleaches are cheap, but not the first choice in keeping skin looking young and healthy.
There can be a number of causes of blemishes, including sebum (skin's oil) becoming rancid, as well as bacteria on the skin causing pores to become infected. This is why an effective cleansing cream that targets both using natural ingredients is so much better than using bleach, in our opinion.
That’s why we set out to find a solution that was effective and good for the skin. We decided to take a different approach and create a cleansing cream that also works as a moisturiser. It may cost a few dollars more for us to make this cream than a bleach-based one, but healthy skin is priceless.
Tip: Apply morning and night after washing, and while the skin is still slightly moist. The cream is not designed for instant results but works best with consistent use over time.
Aqua (H₂O’s Fancy Name), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera), Cetearyl Alcohol (Plant-based Emulsifying Wax) (and) Polysorbate 60 (Food Grade Emulsifier), Squalane (Olive), Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot Kernel) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Glycerin (and) Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Extract, Dimethyl Sulphone (MSM Organic Sulphur), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Caprylic/ Capric Triglyceride (Silky Natural Ester), Hydrolyzed Milk Protein (For Skin Elasticity), Allantoin, Piroctone Olamine (Olamine Salt), Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Oil-Soluble Vitamin C), Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Polygonum Cuspidatum (Japanese Knotweed) (Resveratrol), Glyceryl Caprylate (Emollient), Pyrus Malus (Apple) Extract, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract.
Because we make our products for our families, we have a strict ingredient philosophy that excludes ingredients like Parabens and Phenoxyethanol.
We show all of the ingredients we use in our products on our website, not just the pretty ones. That way you know exactly what's in each one, and can get in touch if you have any more questions.
Please be aware that the ingredients we use in our formulas may be updated occasionally and therefore vary from time to time. Please refer to the ingredient list on the product packaging for the most up-to-date and relevant list of ingredients.
What other products do you recommend for blemish-prone skin?
We have a few other products that specifically address blemishes. Our Tamanu Oil is a lush oil that helps when dealing with blemishes. It’s best applied after washing, but before moisturising. While it might seem counterintuitive to use oil on blemishes, adding oils to the skin actually helps the skin to stop overproducing its own oil, which is one of the main causes for blemishes.
We also recommend our Oil Cleansing Method. Cleansing with oil also sounds counterintuitive but oil dissolves oil, especially hardened oil trapped deep in the pores. This gentle cleanser doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils, which also helps the skin to stop overproducing its own oil.
And finally, for those looking to exfoliate, we created our Gentle Exfoliating Powder, a gentle, non-abrasive facial exfoliant designed to keep the skin fresh by exfoliating physically and enzymatically.
What ingredients do you avoid when making a moisturiser?
There's lots of things you won't find in this cream (or any of our other products) because they were all formulated for family members and close friends. This includes Paraffin and Mineral Oil which derive from petroleum, but are commonly found in commercial moisturisers like Sorbolene. We don’t think putting the stuff that goes into our cars on our skin is the healthiest thing we can do.
We also don’t use any synthetic preservatives such as Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, although they're pretty common too, including with a few brands that claim to be natural (you know who you are!). We avoid a lot of other things too, way too many to list here. We also don't use any useless, trendy ingredients like stem cells from Swiss apples or super power jellyfish DNA, just natural, effective ingredients for healthy skin.
My cream isn’t white. Does this mean it’s gone bad?
Since we use natural ingredients in our products, you may sometimes notice a change in colour to your cream, particularly this one. A change in colour is normal and should be expected since we don’t use any bleaching agents to keep the cream bright white. Natural ingredients are also often rich in colour and can change the colour of a cream after it's mixed in. Don’t be surprised if this cream changes to a light tan colour over time. It’s not a bad thing.
Is this moisturiser made of milk?
We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are made with milk. If you think about it, putting any meaningful amount of fresh milk into a cream and then putting it on a shelf in a store for a while would not end well – yuck! We do use ethically and sustainably sourced Milk Protein from a credible Australian supplier in a some of our skincare products because research has found that it helps to increase skin elasticity by up to 20%.
If you want to know more about the Milk Protein we use, check out the General section on our FAQ page for more detailed information.
