What ingredients do you avoid when making a lip balm?
There's lots of things you won't find in these lip balms (or any of our other products) because they were all formulated for family members and close friends. This includes Paraffin and Mineral Oil which derive from petroleum, but are commonly found in most commercial lip products. We don’t think putting the stuff that goes into our cars on our lips is the healthiest thing we can do, especially when everything on the lips eventually gets eaten.
We also don’t use any synthetic preservatives such as Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, although they're pretty common too, including with a few brands that claim to be natural (you know who you are!). We avoid a lot of other things too, way too many to list here.

Cocoa Seed Butter
A natural butter that is extracted from the seeds of the cocoa plant. It is rich in fatty acids and is known for its moisturising and skin-softening effects.
Apricot Kernel Oil
A natural oil that is extracted from the kernels of apricots. It is rich in vitamins and fatty acids, and is known for its moisturising and nourishing effects.
Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet Almond Oil is extracted from almond kernels and is nourishing to irritated and dry skin. It’s high in minerals and vitamins, and the types of fatty acids needed to help repair troubled skin.
Jojoba Seed Oil
Jojoba Oil is extracted from jojoba seeds and is one of our all-time favourite oils to use. While it is actually a liquid wax, it is non-comedogenic (it does not clog the pores), extremely moisturising, light and sinks into the skin easily.
Honey
Honey is made by bees foraging nectar from flowers. It’s great for healing skin and is a natural anti-bacterial ingredient. We love it for the balance it gives to the Apple Cider Vinegar which we also use in some of our creams. This makes for a beautiful smell without adding fragrance.

I have terribly dry lips and have always used a cortisone and Vaseline. This lip balm has a sting that is pleasant and provides the moisture to make the lips smooth and shiny. I use this as my lip night cream and have not had to use the cortisone since using this lip balm. I go through quite a bit of it, will have to save the pennies to stock the cupboard.
