Can A Fake Tan Be Natural?

What’s in a natural fake tan?

How does a natural fake tan work?
There are also three key tanning components we formulated this collection with. The first is an ingredient called DHA. DHA is a simple, three-carbon sugar that’s derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane by the fermentation of glycerine. DHA reacts with the amino acids found in the outermost layer of the skin, resulting in a chemical reaction known as the Maillard reaction. This reaction leads to the formation of brown-coloured compounds called melanoidins, which gives you a bronzed complexion.
The second ingredient, Erythrulose, is a molecule with a chemical structure like DHA. However, Erythrulose is a more stable compound. It has a lower reactivity with skin proteins than DHA which allows for a more controlled reaction and a reduced skin peeling aftereffect (when your tan begins to fade). It also provides an intense and more natural bronze shade for the skin.
The third ingredient is Dimethyl Isosorbide (DMI). The addition of DMI to our Tan formulations allows for a quicker and better delivery of the DHA to the top layers of skin, increasing colour intensity. The key function of DMI is to enhance the penetration of other active ingredients into the skin. Thus, DMI can improve the delivery of beneficial compounds to deeper layers of the skin, enhancing the efficacy of skincare (or tan) products.
